Work Permit for Vulnerable Workers

Work Permit for Vulnerable Workers

According to section 207.1 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, migrant workers in Canada with employer-specific work permits who are experiencing abuse or who are in danger of abuse because of their employment in Canada may be qualified for an open work permit that is exempt from the LMIA procedure (IRPR).

This particular provision applies to migrant employees in Canada who currently have a valid LMIA-required, employer-specific work permit issued by subparagraph R200(1)(c)(iii) or a valid LMIA-exempt, employer-specific work permit issued under subparagraph R200(1)(c)(ii.1).
